Intelligent Positioners

This pneumatic positioning line of products is the most advanced pneumatic valve positioning line available today.

Our range of electro-pneumatic valve positioners incorporates high end digital processing with rugged pneumatic actuators to provide the best possible control over the valves used in your industry, regardless of how difficult your application may be. Both our compact models (for applications where space is limited), and our full-feature units (which have an integrated Fieldbus connection) provide precise valve control, reduced air usage and low maintenance needs.

Why Use an Electro-Pneumatic Valve Positioner?

An electro-pneumatic valve positioner affects the efficiency of your process, the quality of your products and ultimately your operating expenses. Your control valve should respond to set point changes as accurately as possible, and choosing a properly specified electro-pneumatic positioner is important to ensure accurate responses at all times.

The key features of our intelligent pneumatic positioners include:

  • Automatic calibration routines, which reduce commissioning time
  • Diagnostic functions that enable you to develop predictive maintenance programs
  • Fail-safe features that protect your process during loss of power or air supply

Many industries such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, food and beverage processing, chemical production and water treatment depend on high performance pneumatic positioner technology to comply with regulations and optimize their processes.

GEMU 1434

GEMU Type 1434

Digital Electro-Pneumatic Positioner

The GEMU Type 1434 is a digital electro-pneumatic positioner for process valve control. Designed for simple, safe and quick use with valves with strokes < 25mm. The positioner, travel sensor, switching valves and status LEDs are integrated in a solid compact housing with transparent cover. Pneumatic and electrical connections are in one mounting direction to save space and enable easy access.

  • Simple use and operation
  • Direct or remote mounting to the process valve
  • For single acting normally open or normally closed linear actuators
  • Multi-point calibration for optimum valve adaption
  • Optimized initialization and valve control
  • Fail safe design with “air exhaust” or “stayput” versions
  • Protection class IP 65

GEMU Type 1435

Digital Electro-Pneumatic Positioner

The GEMU Type 1435 detects the valve position with an external LongLife travel sensor. It has a solid housing with protected operating keys and an easy to read LCD display. The operating times can be set by integrated throttles. Connection and mounting to NAMUR is also possible.

  • Simple and self-explanatory menu
  • Automatic initialization function
  • Safety function during power or compressed air supply failure
  • Can be used with linear and quarter turn actuators
  • Operation with single and double acting actuators
  • Remote mounting of positioner and travel sensor
  • Simple electrical connection by detachable terminals
  • Protection class IP 65

GEMU 1436

GEMU Type 1436

Digital Electro-Pneumatic Positioner

The GEMU Type 1436 cPos is a digital electropneumatic positioner with an optional integrated process controller for the control of liquids, gases and steam in conjunction with pneumatically operated process valves. The positioner exactly adjusts the stroke of the process valve. When using the optional process controller the signals from a process sensor (e.g. flow, level, pressure, temperature) are detected and the media adjusted according to the specified set value. A membrane keypad and backlit display are on the front of the housing whilst pneumatic and electrical connections are on the rear. Integrated pneumatic throttles enable the control air to be regulated in a way that the positioner can be set to suit different valve actuators and operating times.

  • For use with single and double acting linear and quarter turn actuators
  • Multi point calibration for optimum valve adaptation
  • Process and position controller are synchronized with each other
  • Parameterisation during operation
  • Optimized initialization and valve control (speedAP function)
  • Choice of direct mounting to process valve or remote mounting
  • Field bus interfaces e.g. Profibus DP, DeviceNet (option)
  • Integrated web server

Factors to Consider When Selecting a Pneumatic Positioner

To determine the best pneumatic positioner for your specific process, evaluate several technical factors, including the actuator type (single-acting, double-acting or quarter turn), stroke length, speed of response and environmental conditions. GEMU electro pneumatic valve positioners are designed to accommodate a wide range of linear stroke lengths, from small compact diaphragm actuators to large piston-type actuators, as well as mounting configurations for either direct attachment or remote mounting.

Our full line of pneumatic valve positioners accepts standard 4-20 mA input signals. Some of our more advanced models also include HART communications and can be configured with field bus for seamless interfacing with modern distributed control systems.

Flexibility in Mounting Options

Correct installation is essential to maximize the performance of a pneumatic positioner. With direct mounting the pneumatic positioner is directly attached to the pneumatic actuator and tubing lengths are minimized, which also increases the response time. This type of mounting option would be best suited to applications that allow for a compact installation and require fast movement.

Gemu’s electro-pneumatic positioners are available with a remote mounting option designed to protect performance in the most demanding applications. Remote mounting is ideal when the positioner would otherwise be exposed to extreme heat, excessive process vibration, highly corrosive atmospheres or environments requiring explosion-proof compliance. By separating the positioner from the valve and mounting it in a safer location, system reliability and service life are significantly improved.

With up to 20 meters of separation available, the remote mounting option provides exceptional flexibility to enhance safety, maintain accuracy and ensure dependable operation even in the harshest process conditions. The Type 1435 and 1436 pneumatic positioners use NAMUR standard mounting connectors, so they may be mounted on a variety of actuators made by different manufacturers and in various sizes.

No matter what type of mounting option you choose, the pneumatics and electrics should always be connected according to the recommendations of the manufacturer to ensure the positioner maintains the IP65 protection rating.
